The vegetable pea variety Everest is a mid-late sugar variety with high yield potential. The plant reaches a height of 90-96 cm and starts flowering at node 16, forming 1-2 pods at each node. The pods are unusually large, reaching up to 13 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width, with a dark green color and soft texture. Each pod contains 8-9 large, wrinkled seeds with high sugar content, giving the peas a sweet taste and making them especially attractive to consumers.
The Everest variety is suitable for growing in both open and closed ground. The period from germination to harvest is 70-72 days, allowing for a stable and abundant harvest. To ensure successful growing, it is recommended to prepare the soil, providing it with nutrients and optimal structure: adding compost, sand, leafy soil, wood ash, as well as mineral fertilizers. Sowing should be carried out when the soil warms up to +12–15°C, observing optimal distances between plants and seed sowing depth.
Pea care includes regular feeding with manure slurry and potassium-phosphorus fertilizers, timely watering with moistening roots to a depth of up to 60 cm, as well as loosening and mulching the soil to prevent crust formation and retain moisture. To support the plants, supports about 1.5 m high are recommended. Harvesting begins two weeks after flowering, and the main harvest is conducted in late August – September. For better storage, pods should not be pulled off but cut along with the plants, tied into bunches, and hung in a dry, dark place, which promotes ripening and preserves the taste qualities of the peas.
