Vegetable Pea Champion

Technical Specifications of the 'Champion' Pea Variety

The 'Champion' variety, developed by NPO 'Sad i Ogorod', is an vegetable pea breed optimized for early maturity and high commercial yield. The core value of this variety lies in its efficiency, delivering a high volume of quality output within a strict 50–60 day vegetation cycle.

Pod Morphology and Yield Dynamics

The yield structure of 'Champion' is built around its pod formation. The plant successfully utilizes its short growth period to develop large pods, measuring 8–9 cm in length. The blunt shape of the pod is specifically adapted for efficient harvest, ensuring the internal pea count remains consistent at 8–10 seeds per pod. This density is crucial for maximizing biomass per unit of area.

Why Large-Seeded Traits Matter

The 'Champion' variety is classified as large-seeded, which is a major advantage for commercial processing and fresh market retail. The size of the peas translates directly into a higher marketable product weight. Furthermore, the uniform distribution of seeds within the pods allows for a synchronized ripening process, which is essential for reducing labor costs during manual or mechanical harvesting.

Agrotechnical Reliability

As the originator, NPO 'Sad i Ogorod' (headed by Vladimir Vasilyevich Stepanov) ensures high genetic purity. On a practical level, this means the cultivar maintains its defined characteristics, such as the specific pod length and seed count, across different soil environments. Given its rapid development, the variety performs best under controlled irrigation and precise sowing intervals, allowing for a continuous production flow throughout the season.
