Tulip Viridiflora

The Aesthetics of Viridiflora Tulips

Viridiflora tulips are the choice for gardeners who value structural elegance and an unusual color palette. The hallmark of these cultivars is the presence of distinct green streaks on the petals that persist throughout the flowering period. This unique coloration gives the bloom an exceptional density and allows it to hold its shape much longer than classic garden tulips.

Planting and Maintenance Guidelines

For consistent performance, these tulips require sunny locations protected from strong winds. Their late-season flowering cycle extends the garden's interest long after early bulbs have faded.

• Soil: They prefer loose, well-drained soil with a neutral or slightly alkaline pH.
• Planting depth: Standard 10–15 cm, depending on bulb size.
• Watering: Moderate moisture is key; avoid waterlogging, which can cause the bulb base to rot.
• Growth habit: The medium height makes them ideal for the middle layer of mixed borders and as cut flowers, thanks to sturdy stems that support the heavy blooms.

Viridiflora tulips are relatively low-maintenance but respond well to proper nutrition. To maintain the vibrant yellow-green shades, apply potassium-phosphorus fertilizer during the budding stage. After flowering, it is crucial to leave the foliage until it fades naturally, allowing the bulb to store enough energy for the following season.
