Tulip Aquilla

Market Positioning and Genetics

The 'Aquilla' tulip represents a high-performance choice for commercial growers looking to combine the aesthetic of peony-flowering tulips with industrial reliability. Classified as a late-blooming variety, it retains the dense, multi-layered petal structure typical of early double tulips. In the horticultural market, Aquilla is recognized for its consistent performance, providing uniform development and structural integrity, which makes it an ideal candidate for both forced greenhouse production and outdoor landscaping.

Disease Resistance and Robustness

A primary driver behind Aquilla's success is its robust defense system. The variety has been bred to withstand the environmental pressures that typically plague bulbous crops. Its proven resistance to key pathogens includes:

• Fusarium wilt;
• Peronospora (downy mildew);
• Powdery mildew;
• Anthracnose.

This genetic resistance significantly lowers the need for intensive fungicide applications, reducing production costs and environmental impact. Its medium-stem architecture provides excellent stability, ensuring the plant remains upright throughout the growing cycle.

Commercial Application and Aesthetics

Visually, Aquilla stands out with its intense yellow color and a heavy, double-flower form that commands attention in any arrangement. Its high vase life makes it a favorite among florists, while its resilience to field conditions ensures that landscape displays remain pristine for longer periods. Whether utilized for mass plantings or premium cut-flower production, this variety offers a low-maintenance, high-reward solution for professionals.
