Tulip Virginia

The Triumph Classic: Why Virginia Stands Out

The 'Virginia' tulip belongs to the prestigious Triumph class, renowned for its classic goblet shape and structural integrity. What sets this variety apart from other mid-season tulips is its striking coloration: a deep, vibrant red base harmoniously blended with subtle lilac undertones. This unique shade gives the flower a sophisticated, 'lit-from-within' appearance that makes it a standout in any spring collection.

Key Advantages for Growers

• Superior Height: The tall, sturdy stems make Virginia an excellent candidate for professional cut flower production.
• Structural Resilience: Unlike softer varieties, the petals hold their shape exceptionally well, even when fully open, ensuring a long shelf life.
• Reliable Performance: Being a mid-season bloomer, it perfectly bridges the gap between early botanical tulips and the late-blooming double varieties.

Target Application: This tulip is an optimal choice for commercial growers looking for a dependable, high-yielding variety for forced cultivation. In landscaping, Virginia works best in mass plantings or as a mid-border anchor where its height can provide a strong visual vertical line. Its drought tolerance is moderate, but it thrives best in environments where moisture can be controlled.

Points to Consider: As a member of the Triumph class, Virginia demands excellent soil drainage. Heavy clay soils can be problematic, leading to bulb rot; adding sand or organic compost is highly recommended for site preparation. To maintain the color intensity and prevent weak stem growth, avoid planting in densely shaded areas—full sun exposure is vital to showcase the richness of its red and lilac palette.
