Tulip Hunter

Technical Profile of the 'Hunter' Hybrid

The 'Hunter' tulip belongs to the Triumph class, which dictates its core functional features: a sturdy stem and a perfectly symmetrical goblet-shaped bud. From an agronomic perspective, this cultivar offers a balanced solution for both mid-season forcing and open-field cultivation.

Biological Defense and Resistance

A major challenge in commercial tulip production is the susceptibility to fungal pathogens. The genetic structure of 'Hunter' demonstrates enhanced resistance to several key threats:

• Downy Mildew (Peronospora): The dense epidermal structure of the petals and leaves limits zoospore penetration, significantly reducing the risk of premature wilting.
• Phomopsis and Phoma: The systemic resistance of the plant allows for a reduction in fungicide application during active growth, which is critical for bulb storage longevity and post-harvest shipping.

Morphological Specifications

The variety is categorized by medium height, providing an optimal stem-to-bud weight ratio. This makes 'Hunter' highly resistant to lodging, even in adverse weather conditions. The deep red pigmentation of the petals maintains color intensity throughout the entire flowering period without succumbing to rapid solar bleaching. The classic goblet geometry preserves the architectural integrity of the bloom, preventing premature flaring after harvest.
