Tulip Ice Cream

Ice Cream: An Icon of Late-Spring Floriculture

The Ice Cream tulip is arguably one of the most recognizable hybrids in the world of ornamental horticulture. As a late-flowering double tulip, it stands out due to its sculptural form. The contrast between the dense, snowy-white center and the vibrant pink outer petals creates a visual effect that mimics a dessert, which has secured its status as a staple for high-end landscape design.

Morphology and Market Position

In terms of growth characteristics, this variety is prized for its low stature, which ensures excellent stability against wind and heavy rain. Unlike taller cultivars that may require staking, Ice Cream maintains a compact, sturdy architecture. This makes it an ideal choice for the foreground of garden beds or professional container displays where precision is paramount.

• Class: Late Double Tulip.
• Aesthetics: Intricate, multi-layered bloom with white and pink tones.
• Strategic Use: Perfect for extending the spring bloom season due to its late arrival.

The market reputation of Ice Cream is built on its aesthetic reliability and uniqueness. It is not merely a tulip; it is a design element that gardeners use to bridge the gap between early spring bulbs and the arrival of summer vegetation. For those looking to add a distinct textural element to a garden, this hybrid remains the industry gold standard.
