Tulip FLAMING

Breeding Profile and Potential

The 'Plamenny' tulip is the result of long-term selection work by the Nikita Botanical Gardens (NBS-NNTS RAS). Breeders Klavdiya Kostina and Galina Gorshkova developed this variety specifically for professional floriculture, focusing on the quality of cut flowers. The genetic potential of this variety is geared towards forming a sturdy peduncle capable of withstanding transport without losing turgor or sustaining mechanical damage.

Agrotechnics and Planting Density

To fully realize the potential of this variety, maintaining strict spacing during planting is critical. The recommended planting distance of 10-12 cm between bulbs ensures optimal air circulation in the root zone. This approach provides several technical advantages:

• Minimizing the risk of fungal disease outbreaks through adequate ventilation;
• Ensuring each bulb receives sufficient soil nutrition to form a robust flower stalk;
• Simplifying mechanized maintenance and final harvesting processes.

Technical Justification

Choosing 'Plamenny' for commercial production is supported by the stability of its characteristics, formally documented by the patent holder. Unlike many imported hybrids optimized for Western European climatic conditions, this variety has undergone rigorous selection within the Nikita Botanical Gardens, providing higher resistance to local abiotic stressors. Utilizing this variety for cut flowers allows growers to achieve predictable results with strictly controlled commercial parameters.
