Tulip Doctor van Hesteren

Greigii Selection Classic

The 'Dr. van Hoey Smith' tulip occupies a distinct position in the segment of low-growing ornamental crops. This cultivar belongs to the botanical Greigii tulip class, prized for its exceptional hardiness and striking, large blooms set against a compact stem. Its introduction to the market addressed the need of landscape designers and gardeners for plants that maintain architectural integrity even during the volatile weather of early spring.

Visual Highlights

The hallmark of this variety is the saturated, deep orange tone of the petals. Thanks to the genetic heritage of Greigii species, the plant possesses a signature feature of the class: beauty that extends beyond the flowers to the foliage. Often, the leaves display light brownish streaks or mottling, providing aesthetic completeness to the plant even before the buds fully open.

Role in Garden Composition

• Border Planting: The short stature makes it perfect for the foreground of flower beds.
• Container Gardening: The variety thrives in pots, maintaining its compact form even in limited root space.
• Durability: A sturdy stem allows the tulip to hold its heavy bloom even in gusty winds, a rarity for many mid-season varieties.

By choosing this variety for your garden, you secure a predictable result: a consistent mid-season flowering time and a recognizable profile that has upheld the reputation of Dutch Greigii breeding for decades.
