Tulip Red Riding Hood

Technical Specifications of Red Riding Hood

The Greigii tulip (Tulipa greigii) 'Red Riding Hood' is a breeding selection optimized for small-scale landscape installations. The development of this hybrid focuses on architectural contrast and robust physiological resilience during early spring climate shifts.

Agrotechnical Profile

• Peduncle Morphology: The low-growth habit provides superior wind resistance. The stem exhibits high structural density, preventing lodging during heavy spring precipitation.
• Flowering Determinants: Classified as a mid-season bloomer. The anthesis period is synchronized with stable temperature increases, mitigating the risk of bud damage from late-season frost.
• Spectral Characteristics: The petals feature intense red pigmentation. A defining genetic trait of the Greigii group found in this variety is the striking combination of vibrant red tepals with distinct anthocyanin mottling on the foliage.

Practical Application

Due to its low center of gravity and compact root system, 'Red Riding Hood' is an ideal candidate for container gardening, border plantings, and rock gardens. Unlike taller varieties, this hybrid requires no staking and maintains its aesthetic integrity even in exposed, windy conditions. It thrives in well-drained soil with moderate organic content.
