Tulip Cor Boersma

Professional insights: Growing Kor Boersema for commercial cut flower production

The Triumph tulip variety Kor Boersema is a reliable choice for commercial greenhouse operations. When planning spring production, agronomic consistency and resistance to disease are critical factors, and this variety excels in both aspects, minimizing risks of crop loss.

Disease resistance as an operational advantage

In high-density indoor cultivation, managing fungal pressure is a primary challenge. Kor Boersema is valued for its inherent resistance to:

• Fusarium wilt: reduces losses during the bulb storage and forcing stages.
• Downy mildew (Peronospora): provides better performance in controlled high-humidity environments.
• Alternaria leaf spot: maintains foliage quality, ensuring the plant remains marketable until harvest.

By selecting resistant genetics, growers can reduce the frequency of fungicide applications, optimizing production costs while ensuring higher quality standards for the retail market.

Production scenarios and best practices

Kor Boersema is a mid-season bloomer, making it an excellent candidate for staggered forcing schedules. Its medium height and sturdy stems ensure that the flowers remain upright during handling, transport, and shelf display. The elegant pink color is highly sought after for mono-bouquets and event floristry. To maximize yield uniformity, ensure precise cooling protocols for the bulbs. Proper temperature management will yield a synchronized bloom, facilitating batch harvesting and simplifying post-harvest handling for distribution.
