Tulip Annie Salomons

The Greigii Legacy in Your Garden

The Annie Salomons tulip is a classic representative of the Greigii group. This variety has long held a niche in landscape design as one of the most reliable options for early-to-mid spring planting. The hallmark of this variety is its low-growing, sturdy habit, making it an ideal choice for rock gardens, borders, or container gardening, where taller cultivars might appear out of place.

Visual Profile

Nature has bestowed this variety with a deep, vibrant red color that maintains its intensity throughout the blooming season. The blooms exhibit the characteristic Greigii shape: dense, substantial, and perfectly balanced against the broad, often mottled foliage that serves as a signature trait of this group. The plant’s compact stature allows it to withstand strong spring winds, which frequently damage taller Dutch hybrids.

Market Position and Application

Today, Annie Salomons retains its reputation as a 'workhorse' for gardeners who prioritize durability. Unlike many modern forcing varieties, this tulip is exceptionally well-adapted to open ground conditions and does not require annual lifting, thriving in the same spot for 3–5 years without losing its vigor. It is frequently selected by professional landscapers to create stable, high-impact color patches in urban parks and private gardens, as the variety demonstrates excellent resilience against adverse weather patterns.
