Chrysanthemum Heroes of Ukraine

Engineering approach to breeding: 'Heroiam Ukrainy' chrysanthemum

Developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine, this variety exemplifies adaptive breeding tailored to local climatic conditions. The design of the plant prioritizes the equilibrium between vegetative mass and peduncle rigidity, which is a critical parameter for cut flower production.

Morphological parameters and technical advantages

• Plant architecture: A medium-height variety (30–60 cm) ensures structural stability and resistance to lodging, minimizing the need for manual support in protected ground environments. Compact size optimizes the planting density per square meter.
• Generative nodes: The flowers are of the large-flowered type (over 10 cm in diameter). The petaloid shape provides high aesthetic value and bud density, which is essential for commercial market presentation.
• Biological cycle: The variety is classified as mid-late, blooming in October. This timing captures the market demand when earlier hybrids have already finished their vegetation cycle.

'Heroiam Ukrainy' is a balanced solution for both decorative gardening and professional floriculture. Its optimized habit minimizes maintenance requirements, such as disbudding and staking, while the large bloom size ensures high margin potential. As a domestic variety, it provides superior acclimation to regional light and temperature fluctuations, ensuring consistent performance throughout the autumn season.
