Tulip Ancilla

Reliable classic: why Ancilla remains a favorite

Kaufmanniana tulip 'Ancilla' is a prominent member of the botanical tulip group, valued for its hardiness and adaptability to unpredictable weather. Developed in the mid-20th century, this variety still maintains a strong market position due to its consistent performance and aesthetic appeal.

Agronomic profile and immunity

Unlike modern hybrid cultivars, Ancilla possesses significant resistance to a wide range of pathogens. Working with this variety reduces the need for constant chemical treatment, as it is naturally resistant to:

• Downy mildew (Peronospora);
• Olive spot;
• Powdery mildew;
• Cucumber mosaic virus.

These traits make it an ideal choice for regions experiencing humid springs and volatile temperature fluctuations.

Visual characteristics and application

Ancilla is an early-flowering, low-growing tulip that heralds the start of the season. Its bloom displays a striking combination of white and soft pink. The inside of the petals is typically a clean white, while the exterior retains a gentle pink blush. Given its low stature, the variety is a staple in landscape design, specifically for rock gardens, borders, and the foreground of garden beds. It thrives well when left undisturbed for several seasons without the need for annual lifting, maintaining excellent flower density.
