Tradescantia Jewel Red – an ornamental-leaved houseplant from the Commelinaceae family, known for its bright and picturesque leaf coloration. The plant has upright creeping stems over 1.5 meters long, but a height of no more than 20 cm, making it ideal for placement in pots on window sills or as part of compositions.
Jewel Red leaves are egg-shaped: the inner side is colored purple, the outer side is dark green with a silver tint. The leaf surface is covered with characteristic stripes in a combination of silvery-green and purple tones, creating an effective visual contrast. Inflorescences are located in the axils of upper leaves; they are small, purple or pinkish, and flowering begins in early summer.
The plant is highly resistant: rarely affected by harmful insects and diseases, which makes it easy to care for. During hot weather, it is recommended to regularly spray the leaves to maintain humidity and prevent drying. Tradescantia also pairs well with other houseplants, such as hostas, ferns, and heucheras, thanks to its universal decorative role in compositions.
