Severyanka cranberry – a domestic variety of Kostroma breeding, obtained from wild Karelian cranberries. The plant is characterized by moderate height and medium-length shoots (about 6 cm), which grow at a slight incline. Saplings have an early-mid ripening period: the harvest can be collected as early as early September, and by the end of the season – about 1.5–1.6 kg/m².
Key fruit characteristics include a dark red color with a waxy coating and a small indentation at the stem. Berries are juicy and sour in taste; their mass varies from 1.4 g to 2.8 g, averaging about 138 g for a hundred berries. The large fruit size of the variety ensures high yield and makes it attractive for both private gardeners and commercial producers.
"Severyanka" demonstrates excellent winter hardiness – up to -33 °C when covered with snow – and good resistance to diseases and pests. For optimal growth, the shrub prefers acidic peat soils, where it adapts quickly and shows steady growth. With proper care, the plant does not require complex procedures, however, prevention of snow mold can improve its health during the cold season.
