The cranberry variety "DAR KOSTROMY" is distinguished by large fruit berries, reaching a diameter of about 16 mm and a weight of almost 5 g. The berries have a flat-round shape, dark-red color with a characteristic indentation at the pedicel, as well as a rich juicy taste: sour, but at the same time sufficiently sweet due to sugar content of 6%. In 100 g of the product there is about 30 mg of vitamin C and 3% of acids, which makes the berries useful and aromatic.
This variety is considered early-maturing: ripening begins in the second decade of August. Due to high yield – from 1.5 to 4.1 kg/m² depending on growing conditions – "DAR KOSTROMY" attracts both farmers and processors. The berries have good storage life, which facilitates their transportation and subsequent processing: juices, canned goods, baking, and other products can be produced.
However, difficulties may arise when harvesting cranberries from thick thicket – most of the berries grow inside the bushes. Therefore, special methods or equipment are recommended for effective harvesting to minimize yield losses. Despite this, the advantages of the variety in the form of large fruit, high vitamin C content and good suitability for processing make it a sought-after choice among cranberry producers.
