Chumiza "Grace" – an early-maturing variety of Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauv. subsp. italica, characterized by high initial growth intensity and a short time to maturity. Thanks to these characteristics, the plant quickly reaches maturity, allowing for harvest in short periods. Green mass yield is about 440.1 kg/ha, and seeds yield approximately 18.3 kg/ha.
The variety is suitable for a wide range of feed systems: from green feed and silage to silage and hay. Additionally, chumiza grains can be used as bird feed. Internal quality indicators include crude protein content of 12% in dry matter and 14.4% in grains, as well as a sugar content of about 7.7%. These parameters make "Grace" a valuable source of energy and protein for animals.
Physical characteristics of the plant include a vertical growth form, medium stem length, anthocyanin coloration of supporting aerial roots, and a long upper internode. The tip of the first leaf is sharp, and the intensity of green leaf coloration is medium. The grain is round with brown coloration in the husk and yellow without it, with a waxy endosperm. These features ensure resistance to mechanical processing and ease of harvest.
