Tomato VP Maraton

Stable yields with a Serbian pedigree

When it comes to indeterminate tomatoes that consistently produce large fruit, professional vegetable growers often look toward Balkan selection. VP Marathon from Superior D.O.O. Za Poljoprivrednu Proizvo is a hybrid that doesn't demand excessive coddling but delivers predictable results every season.

Growth and care requirements

The indeterminate growth habit dictates the rules: you must focus on proper pruning and regular trellising. Marathon grows vigorously and requires disciplined suckering, but it rewards you with a well-structured, productive plant. With a maturation period of up to 90 days, it is convenient for scheduling harvests in both plastic greenhouses and open fields with support systems.

Market quality

The main selling point is the marketability. The round fruit, weighing over 200 grams, boasts a rich pink color. Unlike many large-fruited varieties prone to cracking, Marathon maintains its shape exceptionally well. This is critical for the fresh market: the fruits handle transport perfectly, keeping their appearance and reducing spoilage-related losses.

Protection and health

Serbian breeders have packed this hybrid with a strong defense system. Resistance to Verticillium wilt, Tomato mosaic virus, Fusarium wilt, and Cladosporium leaf mold is not just marketing jargon—it is real savings on fungicides. When a plant is naturally resistant to major greenhouse diseases, you spend less on chemical protection and can focus more on nutrition for optimal fruit development.
