SIERRA is a mid-late hybrid of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) intended for cultivation in the Central Black Earth region, specifically in the Lipetsk region. The plant is characterized by high height at maturity and green leaf coloration. The vegetation period is 116 days, which ensures optimal flowering and maturation time. The mass of 1000 seeds is 50.5 grams, and the ray floret color is yellow. The hybrid is distinguished by the absence or weak expression of blistering and branching, as well as weak marginal and internal stripes on seeds. SIERRA belongs to high-oleic sunflower varieties, confirmed by a high oleic acid content in the oil—82.9%. The average oil content in seeds is 47.5%, which ensures high oiliness and the quality of the obtained oil. The hybrid yield is at the level of 32.5 centners per hectare on average, with maximum indicators up to 50.3 centners per hectare. Oil yield reaches 15.8 centners per hectare. The hybrid is resistant to white mold and has moderate resistance to downy mildew, which increases its reliability and reduces the risk of crop loss. The producer of the hybrid is the company NUSEED EUROPE LTD. The variety has no patent and was included in the state register in 2016. Thanks to its characteristics, SIERRA is an attractive choice for agricultural producers focused on obtaining high-quality high-oleic oil with good yield and disease resistance.
