The French breeding program of Corteva Agriscience introduced the "Fortanes SU" hybrid in 2025, designed for growers aiming for maximum field purity and high grain marketability. As a linoleic mid-season hybrid, it demonstrates stability across the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissya regions, ensuring predictable results even under high disease pressure.

Processing and Commodity Characteristics

The primary purpose of "Fortanes SU" is industrial processing at oil extraction plants. Due to its high yield potential and genetic resistance to all known races of broomrape (A-H), the seeds are characterized by high plumpness and excellent oil content. The stable chemical composition of the linoleic type allows processors to obtain high-quality oil with minimal costs for cleaning raw materials from impurities.

Logistics and Storage

The hybrid's high tolerance to phomopsis, sclerotinia, and downy mildew ensures that the sunflower heads remain healthy until harvest, keeping the seeds intact. This is critical for long-term storage: the absence of fungal infections reduces the risk of heating in grain piles at elevators. The dense structure of the achene ensures excellent transportability, allowing the harvest to be moved over long distances without loss of quality or market appearance.
