Sunflower COSMOPOLLITAN

Genetic Potential and Physiology

The 'Cosmopolitan' hybrid from the French seed company RAGT is an intensive mid-season sunflower type. With a vegetation period of 110–120 days, this hybrid demonstrates an optimal balance between biomass accumulation rates and grain maturation. The plant height of 180–190 cm provides a robust structural framework, effectively supporting the sunflower head even under high yield conditions.

Phytosanitary Barrier

The technical value of the 'Cosmopolitan' lies in its comprehensive genetic protection. RAGT breeders have incorporated high resistance traits against pathogens that limit yields in intensive farming:

• Sclerotinia (White Mold): high tolerance to head and stalk rot, critical for regions with high humidity.
• Downy Mildew: the presence of effective resistance genes prevents early crop damage.
• Phomopsis: stable resistance to the pathogen prevents premature stalk desiccation.

Furthermore, the hybrid exhibits high field tolerance against Alternaria, Phoma, and various types of rot, allowing farmers to reduce fungicide application loads during early and mid-development stages.

Economic Performance: Oil Content and Development

The main profitability driver of 'Cosmopolitan' is its high oil content (50–55%). A consistent oil yield makes this hybrid attractive to the processing sector, while plant uniformity in height and maturation timing simplifies harvest logistics. The powerful root system ensures high adaptability to different soil types, minimizing losses under environmental stress factors.
