Besides sugar, sugar beet yields by-products such as pulp, molasses, and defectate, which have wide applications: molasses is used in the production of alcohol, glycerin, citric acid, yeast, and organic acids; defectate serves as a valuable fertilizer; and pulp is nutritious feed for cattle. Ethanol is also produced from sugar beet and can serve as an alternative fuel for gasoline and diesel.
