Description Novella
Sugar beet variety 'Novella' is a single-stemmed diploid hybrid of the intensive direction with a normal-sweet type, bred by Swiss breeders of the company Syngenta AG. The root has an oval-conical shape with a soil penetration depth of up to 80%, which contributes to its good stability and preservation. Leaves are dark green, medium-sized, with an upright central rosette, ensuring optimal photosynthetic coverage.

The hybrid belongs to mid-late varieties with high yield — up to 604 centners per hectare, while the mass of one root reaches about 798 grams. Sugar content in roots is 17.2%, ensuring high sugar collection — about 106 centners per hectare. Thanks to a balanced combination of high yield and sugar content, the 'Novella' variety is technological when processed at sugar factories.

The variety is characterized by high resistance to cercosporosis, which allows harvesting at medium and late terms without loss of accumulated sugar. In addition, weak damage by root rots, medium damage by root eelworm, and strong damage by powdery mildew are noted. The content of syrupoforming substances in roots is below average, which positively affects the quality of processing and the final product.
