Spinach Green Wave

Growing 'Zelenaya Volna' Spinach: A Practical Guide

When working with spinach, the priority is a stable yield without constant maintenance. 'Zelenaya Volna' (Green Wave) from Agrofirma Aelita has proven to be a predictable choice for those who prefer reliable results over high-maintenance exotic varieties.

Field Observations and Cultural Practices

The first thing that stands out after germination is the deep, dark green color of the leaves. Visually, the seedbed looks dense; the rosette forms compactly, yet the leaves remain thick and succulent. The variety is undemanding in care: standard watering and soil cultivation are enough for optimal development.

• Stability: The variety was developed by a team of originators (V.G. Kachaynik, M.N. Gulkin, S.V. Matyunina), which is evident in the uniformity of the crop. You won't find patches where some plants are overgrown while others haven't even sprouted.
• Growth Rate: The green mass builds up quickly.
• Consumption: The leaf is tender with no bitter aftertaste, making it ideal for both fresh salads and winter freezing.

Personal Experience

Working with 'Zelenaya Volna' is convenient because the crop does not require specific fertilization regimes. If the soil is prepared in the autumn, minimal supplementary feeding is needed during the growth cycle. The leaf rosette holds its shape well, which means less dirt on the leaves during harvest, saving valuable time on post-harvest cleaning before hitting the kitchen or the freezer. In the face of fluctuating spring temperatures, this variety demonstrated resilience against thermal stress, which is a rare trait compared to more delicate imported cultivars.
