Spinach Cougar

Predictable yields through genetic resilience

Working with the Cougar spinach hybrid from Enza Limited is primarily about operational predictability. For any grower, the standout feature is its robust field resistance to downy mildew (Peronospora). In commercial vegetable production, where humidity can lead to rapid disease outbreaks, this variety acts as a safety net, significantly reducing the need for fungicide interventions and keeping production costs under control.

Visual quality and post-harvest performance

The Cougar hybrid is defined by its deep, dark green leaves—a visual standard that retailers and consumers demand. Beyond the aesthetics, the leaf density is a major operational benefit. The structure is firm, which is essential for mechanized harvesting. It minimizes mechanical damage during the cutting process, ensures the product remains vibrant, and significantly improves shelf life after harvest.

• Disease Resistance: Exceptional genetic defense against multiple races of downy mildew (Pfs).
• Uniformity: Plants develop consistently across the field, simplifying harvest cycles and ensuring a high percentage of marketable produce.
• Post-harvest durability: The dense leaf texture ensures the product maintains its fresh appearance long after being picked.

Enza Limited has optimized this Dutch-bred hybrid for commercial efficiency. By choosing Cougar, you are integrating a high-performance crop that handles field stress well and delivers a premium product that looks as good on the shelf as it does in the field.
