Soybean MALAGA

Field Performance: Malaga Soybean

Selecting the right variety is about balancing genetics with field realities. The 'Malaga' variety from the Austrian company Saatzucht Donau Ges.M.B.H. & Cokg has proven to be a reliable choice for farmers who prioritize consistent returns over high-risk experimental varieties.

Agronomy and Operations

With a vegetation period of 110–120 days, Malaga offers enough flexibility for seeding and harvesting windows. The plants reach a height of 70–80 cm, which is an ideal range for modern machinery. From an operator's perspective, the most critical feature is the height of the lowest pods—10–12 cm. This makes a significant difference during harvest: you can keep the header low to pick up all the yield without picking up unnecessary soil or debris. Grain losses are minimal provided the combine is set correctly.

Operating Insights

• Field Maintenance: Thanks to its medium height and sturdy structure, the plants are resistant to lodging, which simplifies spraying and other field operations throughout the season.
• Growth Potential: Malaga responds well to proper soil nutrition. It shows good resilience against temperature fluctuations, making it a stable performer even in unpredictable climate conditions.
• Harvestability: No special modifications are needed for the combine. The uniform height of the pods ensures a clean, fast harvest, which is a major advantage during short weather windows.

In short, Malaga represents the quality of Austrian breeding combined with practical, straightforward agronomy. It doesn't require complex, proprietary systems, but it rewards good management practices with consistent, high-quality yields.
