Sugar sorghum SUGAR SORGHUM 5 is a mid-early hybrid developed in the USA, characterized by high yield and versatile application. The plant is of medium height with a symmetric, upright or slightly drooping head of medium length and density. Leaves are green with light green veins, and the grain has an elliptical shape and grey color. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 16.9 to 23.3 grams, indicating good quality seed material. The vegetation period is about 125-130 days, with a period from germination to heading of 80-85 days. The recommended row width for sowing is 45-70 cm, and the optimal sowing rate is 180-200 thousand seeds per hectare.
This crop is distinguished by its high resistance to drought and lodging, making it particularly valuable for cultivation in variable climate conditions. Sugar sorghum is widely used in various fields: production of high-quality silage and green mass for animal feed, grazing, as well as in biotechnology — for the production of biogas, bioethanol, and sorghum syrup. The stems contain 18 to 19% of juice with high sugar content, glucose, and soluble starch, ensuring high efficiency in sugar, molasses, and biofuel production.
The hybrid yield reaches 1200-1400 centners per hectare under potential indicators and 900-1200 centners on average across Ukraine. Grain quality is characterized by 11.5% protein, 68% starch, 3.5% fat, and up to 5% tannins. Seeds are treated with fungicides and insecticides to protect against diseases and pests, ensuring high germination and plant health. Due to its morphological and biological features, SUGAR SORGHUM 5 is a reliable and productive choice for farmers interested in efficient feed and bioproducts production.
