Sorghum Octan

A Breakthrough in Domestic Sorghum Breeding

«Oktan» is the result of years of research by leading Ukrainian breeders, representing a grain sorghum hybrid focused on achieving consistently high yields in a changing climate. Developed through the synergy of scientists from the Central Institute of Innovative Agricultural Technologies and the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute, this hybrid responds to the needs of farmers looking for a culture that combines technological efficiency with resistance to pathogens.

Agronomic Profile and Field Performance

A key feature of this hybrid is its pronounced resistance to Phoma. In the context of intensified farming, where fungal infections can significantly reduce yield potential, this characteristic places the «Oktan» sorghum among the leaders in its segment. The plant reaches a height of 160–170 cm, providing an optimal architecture for mechanized harvesting with grain combines without excessive losses.

• Application: grain production.
• Originators: A collaboration of leading state and private research centers (including the company «Antaria»).
• Field application: suitable for large agricultural holdings and farms focused on export potential and high-quality feed production.

The hybrid's reputation is built on its predictability. Unlike many imported counterparts, «Oktan» is adapted to the specific soil and climatic conditions of Ukraine, showing a high growth rate during the initial stages of vegetation. Its integration into crop rotation allows for efficient moisture use, which is critical for the southern and central regions of the country.
