NIKOLSKIY

Nikolskiy – an early-ripening sorrel variety bred by Komarova R.A., recognized in Russia and possessing high yield with low leaf acidity. Leaves are large, 32–40 cm in length and 8–12 cm in width, dense, juicy, with a soft mild acidic taste, without anthocyanin and a bright green tint. The plant rosette is semi-erect, 35–45 cm in diameter and about 35 cm in height, typically forming 28 to 36 leaves. Dry matter content is 9–10 %, ascorbic acid – 40–60 mg per 100 g of raw product, and carotene – 4.5–5 mg per 100 g of dry substance.

The variety is distinguished by rapid germination: from full emergence to the first harvest takes only 45–50 days. Yield over 3–4 harvests reaches 4.2 kg/m², and leaves can be harvested up to 4–5 times during summer – from late May to mid-September. For cultivation, sowing in open ground is recommended in April–May or June–July at a depth of 1–1.5 cm, with row spacing of 20–30 cm, and thinning with a spacing of 10–15 cm after seedlings appear.

Nikolskiy is frost-resistant and has strong drought tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in protected ground. Periodic harvesting at a height of 5–8 cm promotes accelerated regrowth of greens and maintains their quality. Due to the high content of biologically active substances in the leaves, this variety is suitable both for food use and functional nutrition.
