Field performance of Severino KWS

When selecting winter oilseed rape, the primary concern is the plant’s ability to survive the winter and kick off growth in spring. Severino KWS, a German-bred variety from KWS, behaves like a reliable partner. It is a simple line hybrid that doesn't demand excessive agronomic complexity, provided that basic field protocols are followed.

Development and health

The variety features excellent branching. For an agronomist, this is a major advantage: at a seeding rate of 400,000 to 500,000 seeds per hectare, the canopy closes quickly, effectively suppressing weeds. A crucial technical point is its genetic resistance to Phoma. In wet autumns, when surrounding fields were suffering, Severino KWS remained clean, which helps protect the potential yield of 40-50 dt/ha.

Harvesting and economy

With an oil content of 45-50%, this hybrid is the "golden mean" for processors. It isn't prone to pod shattering, allowing the harvester operator to manage the schedule comfortably without racing against the clock. The hybrid is responsive to intensive nutrition and shows remarkable adaptability. From an operational perspective, it is predictable: it doesn't overgrow rapidly during early seeding, provided that growth regulators are applied at the right time.
