Radish Fakel

Technical profile of the 'Fakel' cultivar

Developed by the Institute of Oilseed Crops of NAAS, this radish cultivar represents a specific selection strategy focused on long-cycle development rather than short-term forcing. With a growing season of 100–110 days, 'Fakel' is engineered for late-season production and extended shelf life, distinguishing it from common spring greenhouse hybrids.

Morphological indicators and crop efficiency

• Root Geometry and Mass: The round shape provides a structural advantage for mechanical harvesting and post-harvest processing. The weight, ranging from 50 to 100 grams, reflects the accumulation of high-density solids, ensuring a high-quality product without the pithiness often associated with rapid-growth varieties.
• Light and Thermal Tolerance: The cultivar is adapted to the fluctuating daylight hours of the spring-summer transition. The substantial foliage density is a critical component of its physiology, driving photosynthetic activity necessary to sustain the long maturation period.

Practical Application

The extended maturation cycle requires precision in soil moisture management. By planting 'Fakel', producers can effectively fill a market gap, supplying high-quality, dense radishes well after the typical early-season harvest window has closed. The cultivar's robustness makes it a reliable asset for commercial growers looking to diversify their inventory with a product that balances weight, uniformity, and extended storage potential.
