Pumpkin NATIVE BORDER

Why "Rodnoy Kray" is the choice for long-term storage

When selecting pumpkin varieties for your garden, a common dilemma arises: choosing between high yield and the ability to survive winter without compromising flavor. "Rodnoy Kray," developed by the Gavrish breeding firm, strikes a rare balance that satisfies both needs. The variety specializes in combining substantial fruit weight (4 to 6 kg) with impressive shelf life.

Key Strengths

• Storage Endurance: The fruits maintain their marketability and flesh structure for 4 months or more. This makes it an ideal solution for growers who prefer to store their harvest rather than sell it immediately after picking, planning for mid-winter availability.
• Consistent Performance: Since "Rodnoy Kray" is an open-pollinated variety rather than an F1 hybrid, you can save seeds for the next season, which is cost-effective and allows for better soil adaptation over time.
• Vigorous Vining Habit: The plant is known for its strong, vining growth. While this requires more space, it acts as a natural ground cover, effectively suppressing weeds through dense foliage.

Who is this variety for?

"Rodnoy Kray" is best suited for home gardeners and small-scale farmers who prioritize winter stockpiling. Its round-flattened shape makes it easy to transport and store, even in compact cellar spaces. It is important to note, however, that due to its vining nature, this variety is not suitable for high-density planting—it requires significant space for the vines to spread. If you are looking for a reliable, traditional pumpkin that won't spoil shortly after harvest, this selection by breeder Sergey Fedorovich Gavrish is one of the most rational choices in the traditional variety segment.
