Pumpkin Change

Practical insights on Zmina pumpkin

For agronomists, the "Zmina" variety from the IPOiB UAAN is a staple of consistency. Producing 8–10 kg fruits, this variety offers reliable performance in field conditions. From an operational management perspective, its main asset is durability: the fruit can be stored for months with minimal intervention, allowing producers to sell inventory during peak market pricing.

Logistics and Operational Handling

• Form factor: The cylindrical shape with a thickened end is highly ergonomic for palletizing and container loading. It optimizes space and reduces the amount of empty, wasted volume during transit.
• Durability: The yellow-brown striped skin acts as a protective barrier, effectively minimizing damage during mechanical harvesting and long-distance transport.
• Low-maintenance storage: "Zmina" is highly valued for its shelf life. It does not require complex climate-controlled facilities, significantly reducing operational expenses and labor costs during the storage season.

Choosing Zmina means opting for locally adapted genetics that perform predictably across various soil types. It eliminates the need for expensive post-harvest infrastructure, offering a straightforward balance between manual labor input and market-ready yields. It is a practical solution for any farm focusing on mid-to-long-term crop marketing.
