Description ELIZAVETINSKAYA
The Elizavetinskaya hard spring wheat variety (Triticum durum Desf.) is medium-early maturing and recommended for cultivation in the Saratov region and the Lower Volga region. This variety is characterized by an intermediate bush type and weak-medium straw thickness, ensuring lodging resistance at the level of standard varieties. The flag leaf is covered with a strong waxy coating, and the ear is cylindrical, of medium density, white in color with white awns that are longer than the ear. The grain is elongated, light-colored, with a short awn; the 1000-grain mass ranges from 38 to 45 grams. The vegetative period lasts 80-90 days, with ripening occurring simultaneously or slightly earlier compared to the Saratovskaya Zolotistaya variety. Elizavetinskaya possesses high pasta-making qualities due to increased carotenoid content (785 µg/%) and strong gluten, confirmed by a high SDS-sedimentation index. Pasta color is rated at 9 points, corresponding to high product quality. The variety is resistant to powdery mildew, moderately susceptible to common mildew, and highly susceptible to brown rust. Medium drought resistance and high yield make it competitive in various districts of the Saratov region, including left-bank and right-bank territories. The average yield of the variety in the region is 10.4 c/ha, while in the Saratov region it ranges from 16 to 21 c/ha, which is 1.5-2.0 c/ha higher than the Saratovskaya Zolotistaya variety. Due to stable production of high-quality grain and high plasticity, Elizavetinskaya is in demand in enterprises of various ownership forms. Seeds are distributed under licensing agreements, and the variety can be used as an improver to enhance the nutritional value and appearance of final products.
