The Crimean Winter columnar apple tree is a late-winter variety characterized by high frost hardiness and a compact shape, making it ideal for cultivation on small plots and in limited spaces. The tree is of medium height, reaching up to 2.5 meters, with a crown diameter of about 50 cm. Rapid growth is observed in the early years, and annual growth during full fruiting is 5-10 cm. The crown is widely rounded and weakly dense, with mixed fruiting that contributes to early fruiting—the first fruits appear by the second or third year after planting.
The apples have medium to above-average size, weighing from 125 to 200 grams, with a truncated-conical shape, a wide base, and slight ribbing at the top. The skin is smooth, greenish-yellow with a blush, and the flesh is finely granular, medium-density, juicy and aromatic. The taste is sweet and sour with a slight sour aftertaste, making the apples delicious both fresh and when used for making juices, jams, desserts, and preserving.
Harvest maturity occurs in mid-October, and thanks to high frost hardiness and resistance to fungal diseases, the fruits can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 210-220 days, retaining their taste qualities until the end of winter. The variety also differs in drought resistance and good transportability, which makes it convenient for cultivation and marketing.
