Katrusia Odeska — a high-yielding winter soft wheat variety recommended for cultivation in the steppe zone of Ukraine. This variety was developed by the Selection and Genetics Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing and is intended for use on high and medium agrofunds. It is characterized by high yield, reaching 7.9–11.4 t/ha during state trials, exceeding national standards by 10.2–19.4%. Plants are of medium height (84–95 cm), with large, well-awned ears and moderate tillering, short-stemmed, which contributes to resistance to lodging and grain shattering.
The variety has a medium growing period — 280–285 days, high winter hardiness and cold resistance, exceeding average levels. Additionally, Katrusia Odeska exhibits high resistance to salinity and soil acidity, as well as drought and heat, making it particularly valuable for steppe conditions. It can effectively utilize nitrogen nutrition and tolerate deviations in sowing dates from optimal ones.
The grain quality of this variety is high: protein content is 13.8–14.5%, gluten — 33–38%, and flour strength reaches 320–340 units. The overall bread quality produced from this variety ranges from 4.4–4.8 points. Moreover, the variety is resistant to plant diseases, contributing to stable yields and reduced costs for plant protection. All these characteristics make Katrusia Odeska a versatile and reliable choice for intensive agriculture in steppe regions.
