Originator — Institute of Crop Production named after V. Ya. Yuryev, NAAN.
Registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2002 for cultivation in the steppe zone of Ukraine.
Variety distinguishing features. Hordeiforme variety. Red, awned, medium density, cylindrical, glabrous ear, length 5-7 cm. Grain — amber, 1000-grain weight — 38–43 g. Ear bract medium, lanceolate-ovate. Venation weakly expressed. Auricle short, sharp. Shoulder narrow, raised. Recess strongly expressed.
Biological features. Plant height — 80–110 cm. Vegetative period — 80–95 days. Moderately resistant to lodging, ear easily shatters. Variety exceeds standard in resistance to powdery mildew and rust. Resistance to powdery mildew, hard head, and Swedish fly is at standard level. Characterized by high drought resistance.
Agronomic features. Variety characterized by high plasticity. Potential yield — 4.7 t/ha. Pasta quality good. According to Institute's grain quality laboratory data at yield 3.1 t/ha, gluten content was 33–37%, protein content 14–17.2%. Grain characterized by increased glassiness, making the variety indispensable for grit production.
Agronomic requirements. Sowing rate — 5 million germinating seeds per hectare. Variety does not till, therefore adherence to optimal sowing rate is essential for forming optimal productive stem density. Seeds must be treated with fungicide and insecticide prior to sowing.
