Potato Samorodok

Technical Analysis of the 'Samorodok' Potato Variety

The 'Samorodok' variety, developed by the A.G. Lorch Federal Potato Research Center, is a mid-season table potato cultivar. With a biological cycle of 95–105 days, this variety is engineered to balance yield consistency with optimal tuber development.

Key Agronomic Characteristics

• Tuber Architecture: The round to oval shape of the tubers is optimized for mechanical harvesting, significantly reducing mechanical damage during the digging process.
• Culinary Profile: As a table-grade variety, 'Samorodok' offers balanced dry matter content, ensuring the texture remains stable during standard industrial processing and home cooking.
• Growth Dynamics: The 95–105 day maturity window allows for effective integration into intensive crop rotation systems, providing producers with a predictable harvest schedule.

From a production standpoint, 'Samorodok' demonstrates reliable performance when managed with standard agronomic protocols. Success with this variety relies on precision soil fertility management and a proactive pest/disease control program, particularly concerning late blight resistance, which is standard practice for professional potato cultivation using Russian breeding materials.
