Dary Sofiyivky

Dary Sofiyivky — a new hybrid variety of persimmon developed in the 21st century by breeders of the National Dendrological Park «Sofiyivka» of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The tree is medium-sized, reaching a height of 3–3.5 meters, with a broad, rounded, and dense crown. The variety is self-fertile, but the presence of other pollinators nearby enhances yield and fruit size. The tree begins bearing fruit in the third to fourth year after planting, allowing for a relatively quick first harvest.

Fruits of the «Dary Sofiyivky» variety have a round-oval shape and weigh between 80 and 150 grams. Their skin changes color from orange to bright red-orange upon ripening, giving them an attractive appearance. The flesh is juicy, sweet, and aromatic, practically free of astringency and fibrousness, making the flavor especially pleasant. The fruit ripens in the first decade of October, significantly earlier than other persimmon varieties such as «Ukrayinka» or «Sosnovska».

The variety is distinguished by high frost resistance and disease resistance, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, although in northern and central regions, it is recommended to cover the plants for winter in the first years after planting. After harvest, fruits can be stored for up to two months, ensuring convenience in use and marketing. Due to its qualities and characteristics, Dary Sofiyivky is considered one of the best modern Ukrainian cultivars.
