Sosnivska

Sosnivska date — a high-yielding and frost-resistant variety developed by Ukrainian breeder V.M. Derewianko. The tree is medium-sized, reaching 3.5–4 meters in height, with a compact and sparse crown. Leaves are dark green, dense, and glossy. The variety is distinguished by early fruiting — already on the 2nd–4th year after planting, allowing for relatively quick harvest. Fruits form well due to high parthenocarpy, and the variety is an excellent pollinator for other date trees. Fruits of Sosnivska date are medium-sized, weighing up to 100–130 grams, with an oval-rounded shape and bright yellow-orange color with a red blush at full maturity. Flavor is sweet and juicy, with a slight astringency that disappears at full ripeness. Fruits contain 1–4 seeds, with up to 30% being seedless. Harvest begins in early October, making this variety one of the earliest maturing among dates. Sosnivska date exhibits high frost resistance — mature trees can withstand temperatures down to -28…-30 °C, enabling cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine without covering, except for the first two years in colder regions. For successful cultivation, sunny and wind-protected locations are recommended. The variety is promising for commercial cultivation due to its high yield, self-fertility, and fruit quality.
