The peony cultivar 'Favorit' is a herbaceous interspecific hybrid created by crossing P. peregrina and P. lactiflora 'President Taft'. This cultivar was developed by Ukrainian breeder Vasiliy Fedorovich Gorobets in 2009. 'Favorit' is distinguished by its early flowering and belongs to the fragrant peony category, with a delicate, mildly scented aroma, making it appealing to gardeners who appreciate subtle fragrances.
The flowers of peony 'Favorit' are double, large, reaching a diameter of 16-18 cm, and have a bomb-shaped form. Outer petals are wide and slightly concave, while central petals are narrower with large, notched, and scalloped edges. The center of the flower is adorned with slender, long staminal petals of bright yellow-gold color, forming a ring around pale lettuce-colored carpels topped with pink stigmas. The velvety, deep red petals with purplish-bordeaux tones retain their rich, glossy color throughout the season without fading under sunlight.
This cultivar is ideal for cut flowers due to the high quality of its blooms and prolonged flowering period. Peony 'Favorit' will become a striking feature in the garden, drawing attention with its dramatic and vibrant coloration, as well as its elegant flower shape.
