Peony Dream

Siberian Hardiness in Your Garden

The «Mechta» (Dream) peony is the result of long-term breeding work by the team at the FSUE Novosibirsk Zonal Horticultural Station of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The creators—T. M. Nazarova, G. A. Razumova, and N. A. Vdovkina—aimed to develop a plant capable of not just surviving, but thriving in harsh climates.

The main advantage of «Mechta» is its extreme frost resistance. The variety confidently withstands temperatures of -35°C and below without the need for complex winter protection, making it a top choice for gardeners in northern regions. Unlike many imported hybrids that require significant acclimation, this herbaceous peony is genetically optimized for short, intense summers.

Aesthetics and Cultivation

• Flower: A double, delicate pink bloom with a classic form, ideal for cut flowers. The stems are sturdy enough to support the weight of the heavy blossoms.
• Soil: This variety is demanding regarding soil fertility. To reach its full potential, planting in well-structured, nutrient-rich loam is highly recommended.
• Light: The plant is sun-loving. Planting in shaded areas leads to leggy stems and poor flowering, so open, sun-drenched locations are best for «Mechta».

Who is this variety for? Primarily for those seeking a reliable flower for commercial cut production in high-risk agricultural zones or homeowners who cannot provide constant maintenance to their flowerbeds during the off-season. «Mechta» is forgiving of beginner errors, provided the basic soil nutrient requirements are met. If you are looking for a «hard-to-kill» peony with delicate blossoms that will bring joy for decades, this masterpiece of Novosibirsk selection is an excellent investment.
