Odessa 58 (winter)

Odessa 58 (winter) — is a winter variety of protein pea intended for grain production. It is characterized by very early maturity and uniform ripening, allowing effective utilization in various climatic conditions. The variety tolerates low temperatures well, making it suitable for cultivation in all regions of Ukraine, including the Steppe, Polesie, and Forest-Steppe. Plants reach a height of 60–80 cm, and seeds are round and vary in color from light cream to light green. The 1000-seed mass is 180–200 g, and the protein content in the grain reaches 23–25%, making this variety a valuable protein source. The yield potential of the variety is approximately 62 centners per hectare, at the recommended seeding rate of 220 kg per hectare. Seeds are treated, providing protection for plants during early growth stages.

Growing winter pea is a relatively new practice for Ukrainian farmers, gaining popularity due to its advantages. Agronomists' experience shows that proper sowing technology, fertilization, and protection against pests and diseases significantly influence yield and product quality. Winter pea enables a stable yield with optimal use of agronomic practices, making it a promising crop for farm enterprises.

The Odessa 58 variety is also economically advantageous. Its high protein content and grain quality make it in demand both domestically and internationally.
