Pea Legion

Technical Profile of the "Legion" Pea Variety

"Legion" is a mid-ripening field pea variety (Pisum sativum) developed by the P.P. Lukyanenko National Grain Center. The breeding focus for this variety was to achieve a robust balance between environmental stress tolerance and high phytosanitary resistance, essential for consistent yield performance.

Phytopathological Protection and Productivity

A key engineering feature of this variety is its enhanced genetic resistance to anthracnose. For the farm manager, this translates into a reduction in fungicide applications during the growing season. Eliminating the need for emergency treatments against this fungal infection reduces operational costs and avoids the risk of plant phytotoxicity under stressful climatic conditions.

• Vegetation Period: 70–80 days. This maturity range allows the variety to escape peak summer heat and drought, which is critical for maintaining grain fill in southern regions.
• Seed Characteristics: The 1000-seed weight ranges from 180 to 200 grams. Large seed size ensures high germination energy and the establishment of a strong early-stage vegetative apparatus.
• Plant Habit: The variety features a medium stem height, ensuring optimal harvestability and minimizing mechanical losses during combine harvesting.

Integrating "Legion" into a crop rotation allows for optimized harvest logistics. The uniformity of maturation and lodging resistance, characteristic of the Lukyanenko Center's breeding program, make this variety a predictable and efficient tool for producers aiming for high-quality commercial grain output.
