The «STAPAYS» paiza variety features an erect bush with medium density and a height ranging from 90 to 110 cm. The stem is short, thin, and of medium thickness; leaves are lanceolate and erect. The panicle has a conico-lanceolate shape, medium length, loose structure, and an almost absent neck. Spikelets are rhomboid and awnless, while spikelet scales turn light brown upon ripening with weak anthocyanin pigmentation. The grain is egg-shaped-round, floral membranes are greenish-gray, and the mass of 1000 grains is 2.6–2.7 g.
The vegetation period spans 58–64 days from germination to the first mowing and 105 days to maturity. The «STAPAYS» paiza variety is distinguished by good drought tolerance: at the beginning of vegetation, it quickly recovers growth after rainfall, and under favorable conditions, it can yield two mowings of green mass. The variety is resistant to ergot and bacterial blight, making it a reliable choice for mass production.
For sowing, «STAPAYS» can be planted using both row and wide-row methods (for seeds). The sowing rate is 6–8 kg/ha when planting for seeds and 10–12 kg/ha for green feed. Harvest is collected at the phase of the beginning of mass panicle shedding; seeds maturing unevenly are removed separately. The average yield of dry matter is about 70.8 c/ha, and of seeds – 31.5 c/ha. The variety is widely used for producing green feed, hay, silage, and silage thanks to its high biological and economically valuable indicators.
