Oleaster SAKHALIN FIRST

Practical farm application

"Sakhalinsky Pervy" is a variety developed by the Vavilov Research Institute (VIR), representing a shrub form of Elaeagnus. Its selection for agricultural purposes is driven by both its functional utility and environmental adaptability. With a height of 1.5–2 meters, this shrub is an excellent choice for establishing windbreaks on fields with light, sandy soils.

Agrotechnics and utility

• Soil enrichment: As a known nitrogen-fixer, the root system of this variety actively improves soil structure, making it a valuable tool for reclaiming marginal lands or stabilizing areas prone to erosion.
• Market focus: Designed specifically for the fresh produce market, the fruits possess a distinct sweet flavor, setting them apart from wild-growing species. Given the nature of the crop, it is best suited for small-to-medium farms focused on premium or niche eco-friendly produce.
• Cost-efficiency: The shrub is highly resilient to varying lighting and moisture levels, significantly minimizing the need for fertilizers and plant protection products, thus lowering production costs.

When planning plantings, it is essential to ensure well-drained soil to allow "Sakhalinsky Pervy" to reach its full production potential. Beyond initial pruning for crown formation during the first few years, the variety requires minimal specialized intervention. It serves as a reliable, low-maintenance perennial for producers looking to diversify their portfolio with a crop that balances ease of cultivation with market appeal.
