Oats of the "Matros" variety is a valuable grain product developed at the Nosovskaya Selection Station through hybridization of the Chernigovskiy 27 and Rannespely varieties. This mid-season variety belongs to the mutika type and is characterized by white, medium-type kernels with good filling. The thousand-kernel weight is 36-40 grams, and the huskiness is 24-26%. The grain contains 12.4-12.8% protein, meeting the requirements of grain varieties. The stem reaches a height of 100-112 cm, has medium thickness, is strong and resistant to lodging.
The biological features of the variety include a vegetation period of 90-100 days, resistance to lodging, drought, and major diseases. The variety is slightly damaged by the Swedish fly, enhancing its reliability under various climatic conditions. The potential yield reaches 70 centners per hectare, confirmed by trials at the Pylutskaya Variety Testing Station in the Chernihiv region, where the yield was 69 centners per hectare.
Oats "Matros" are widely used for both food and feed purposes due to their nutritional and energetic properties. The grain, stems, straw, and flour of this variety find application not only in agriculture but also in folk medicine. Recommended for cultivation in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia zones with a seeding rate of 3.2-3.6 million per hectare (approximately 200 kg per hectare), ensuring high productivity and quality of the harvest.
