Onion Zodiac

High-yield salad onion with excellent storage potential

The 'Zodiac' onion, developed by Gavrish and the Russian Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding and Seed Production, occupies a specific niche in professional vegetable farming. As a mid-late variety with a growing season of 170–180 days, it requires patience but rewards the grower with exceptional results.

Key Advantages

• Record Yields: When proper agricultural practices are followed, yields can exceed 100 tons per hectare, making it a highly profitable choice for large-scale operations.
• Stable Bulb Weight: The bulbs typically weigh between 110 and 150 grams, meeting the precise requirements of both the retail sector and the HoReCa industry.
• Quality Profile: These dense, round bulbs feature a crisp white interior with a mild, sweet salad flavor. The light brown dry skin ensures good shelf life and resilience during transport.

Cultivation Insights

The main logistical consideration for this variety is that it requires manual harvesting, which increases labor costs during the collection phase. However, this is offset by the high commercial quality and uniformity of the crop. 'Zodiac' is designed for those focused on delivering a premium salad product that maintains its appearance and taste over long periods. The variety is demanding regarding irrigation and fertilization schedules during the mid-vegetation phase, making it ideal for farms with well-established irrigation systems.
