Derek F1 onion is a medium-maturing hybrid of semi-sharp bulb onion of Spanish type, developed by breeders of the Hazera company from the Netherlands. It matures in 115-120 days after emergence of seedlings and is intended for cultivation in open ground. The plant is characterized by productivity, vigor, and balanced growth, as well as high resistance to drought, insufficient soil moisture, and intense solar activity. The onion is resistant to common diseases and pests, particularly thrips, which significantly simplifies its cultivation and improves crop quality.

The bulbs of Derek onion have a proper round shape with very hard and firm golden-bronze outer scales. The average weight of the onion bulb ranges from 100 to 180 grams. The inner scales are white, thick, and succulent, providing a pleasant semi-sharp flavor with moderate sweetness. Thanks to a strong waxy coating, the onion exhibits excellent resistance to herbicide burns and mechanical damage, making it particularly suitable for mechanized harvesting.

The hybrid is characterized by high yield and is suitable for long-term storage up to 8-9 months, allowing its use during autumn-winter periods. Derek onion has three adhering scales that do not detach, contributing to its good transportability and storability. These qualities make it in demand both for commercial cultivation and culinary use in various dishes.
